This study has two purposes. First, an overall review of the SIT and BCC methodologies, which have recently been known as creative thinking tools. Second, catching the benefits and challenges of these methodologies based on the results from idea generation using SIT and BCC. In order to collect ideas, the idea generation practice was conducted through 24 engineers of S company, domestic semiconductor manufacturer, and a total of 382 innovative cases and ideas were obtained as raw data. Based on those ideas, the SIT and BCC misuse cases were revised and reclassified. Finally, five advantages and four challenges were summarized. Advantages of using SIT and BCC include stimulation of divergent thinking based on the complementarity of SIT and BCC, breakdown of stereotypes based on various idea thinking tools, improvement of specificity and completeness of idea, induction of viewpoint on problem situation, and the interesting idea generation process based on innovative cases. The challenges that need to be solved in the future include effective teaching methods and practice systems, practicality of thinking tools that take into consideration the realities of the manufacturing field, establishing creative task execution processes that naturally lead to flow, transforming them as problem solving tools that reinforce analytical aspects.
