Jeonju (refers to current city of Jeonju; 전주; 全州) had been chosen as the capital of Wansan- ju Province (685 AD), one of the nine provinces of Unified Silla after the Three Kingdom unification (676 AD). Since becoming a provincial capital, Jeonju was growing into a hub city of local provincial region. At the provincial office during this process, various facilities including an office building, settlements, military defense structures were built along with new type of burial installments. Archaeological findings of Unified Silla Period from Jeonju are, however, yet very scarce even not considering the historical context. In this paper, therefore, archaeological sites of Unified Silla Period are reviewed focusing on those found through the Jeonbuk Innovation City Project. Features and structures of Unified Silla Period in Jeonbuk Innovation City area include building lot, roof-tile kiln, and tombs. The building lots are in large scale that difficult to find comparable size in this Honam region history, with well-established walls and drainage installments. The bronze tool production facility found at the central part of a building lot is important since this type of installment has been only found in Gyeongju area, the capital of Unified Silla, representing relationship between Jeonju (Wansan-ju) and the main Silla authorities. Rooftile kiln, dwelling, and stone-lined tombs found from Jeonbuk Innovation City sites have similar characteristics with previous findings, and mainly falls into 8C to mid-9C AD. Pit burials found are very rare records in this region and period, thus will be important data for further studies. Location of the Wansan-ju provincial office has been thought to be at current Jeonju Nosong- dong area, while with not enough archaeological evidences. Complex archaeological findings from the Jeonbuk Innovation City sites, including the bronze tool production facility, large-scale building lots, roof-tiles with written characters of ‘官’, ‘一里’, ‘二里’, and ‘三里’ (implying the existence of governmental office; local administration or town number 1, 2, and 3), tombs, and Hwangbang Sanseong (mountain fortress) indicate that there was indeed considerable authorities existing in this region, possibly a provincial capital spot of Wansan-ju.
