This Paper aims to investigate the nonfiction readings based on genre approach, having difficulties dealing with text authenticity and genre knowledges compared to fiction text instructions. So, this paper reviewed the recent new genre concepts and implicit teaching of genre knowledges, the implications of genre awareness and strategic question list. Then, this paper analyzed the genre-based subject connections of 2009 korean language textbook nonfiction reading lessons which included science stories, and 2009 science textbook’s science stories. The results were that genre awareness was not found in 2009 korean language textbook. Therefore to improve current cross-curriculum reading problems, this paper proposed to select authentic texts regarding science textbook, and include strategic question for genre awareness in nonfiction unit systems.
