This study aims to examine the 1925 Yecheon Incident and its implications. In 1925, in Yecheon, Gyeongsangbuk-do, confrontations arose between peasants and laborers, and equalitarianism movement Baekjeong (butcher)-turned activists. Existing studies explained these confrontations as conflicts between social movement activists, or identified them as based on peasants' and laborers' discrimination sense for people's social status. However, such recognition needs to be newly reviewed because it highlighted only one side of Yecheon Incident. First, the review of subjects in the 1925 Yecheon Incident revealed them as the lower-class people in their early 30s in terms of socio-economic aspects. Also, these people were then so-called proletariat. The 1925 Yecheon Incident was confrontations between the newly named lower-class people and the minority Baekjeong. On the other hand, the reason why they attacked Baekjeong-turned activists was linked to people's relative deprivation sense associated with wealth and poverty along with the long-standing status ideology. Conceptual ideology and specific experience, encountering each other, led to violence. Meanwhile, widely responding to the 1925 Yecheon Incident was then Joseon under the Japanese colonial rule. Government-General of Joseon tried to neutralize the conflicts caused by Yecheon Incident. News media such as the Chosun Ilbo and the Donga Ilbo criticized the peasants and laborers who attacked the equalitarianism activists. On the other hand, socialist movement forces focused on criticizing the powers which instigated the peasants and laborers. Meanwhile, Yecheon Incident made it an accident to newly review the planning for subject formation initiated by socialist movement powers.
