Modern Incheon Port was an important gateway to national capital. However, as it was classified as a port directly managed by the U.S. and UN forces through the U.S. Military Government and Korean War, the rehabilitation and development of Incheon Port was bound to be restricted to some extent. In addition, reflecting the existing history, most of the modern Incheon Port's historical descriptions don’t properly analyze aspects of postwar rehabilitation and development in the 1950s. This article aims to restore the history of post-war rehabilitation and development of Incheon Port in the 1950s a fter the liberation that had been neg lected. Incheon Port was the gateway to the national road to the capital, Seoul, and was the representative port of Korea after Busan Port. In particular, Incheon Port was the occupied space of the U.S. military, which prioritized the occupation of Seoul, the capital, and was the first place where the U.S. military stationed after liberation. Japanese colonial era Incheon Port, whose role as a port was reduced due to World War II, was used as an export and import channel for the U.S. Military Government, and was used as an import channel for aid supplies before and after the establishment of the government. However, due to the Korean War, Incheon Port lost its function as a port, and discussions and plans for port rehabilitation continued in the 1950s after the war. This article restored the rehabilitation process of Incheon Port before the fullfledged development solidarity by taking a closer look at the process of losing its function as a port of Incheon Port at the time of the Reds Marched(1·4후퇴) and the post-war rehabilitation process. In addition, the background and process of port development in the 1950s focused on ‘post-war rehabilitation’ rather than ‘development’ in Incheon Port. Through this, it is intended to restore the appearance of Incheon Port, which had been recovering from the war damages before the fullscale development of Incheon Port. In the 1950s, Incheon Port continued to serve as a gateway to the capital through the import of important materials, and the long-term port operation plan planned for that period influenced the development of Incheon Port later.
