In this paper, we looked at the aspect of the folk religion of ｢어둠이 걷힌자리엔 (Where the darkness has cleared)｣, and discussed the characteristics and meanings of this work in the use of the folk religion in webtoons. ｢Where the darkness has cleared｣ features 두겸 (Doogyeom), who plays the same role as a shaman. Through Doogyeom, the intermediary, human beings, gods, ghosts, and mystical creatures communicate and understand each other. It also depicts the the spirits and gods adapt the changes of the world. This webtoon embodies the gods in close proximity to the archetype of the mythic world, and at the same time, it also captures the spirit and surrounding small gods into the realm of webtoons. This webtoon also pointed out social problems through the vindictive ghost. This webtoon also rediscovered the character of vindictive ghost as a subject of social problems. ｢Where the darkness has cleared｣ shows the components of folk religion, while criticizing social issues through the being of folk religion. It also shows sympathy and solidarity to victim. It also talks about symbiosis through the way people, spirits and gods understand each other and seek ways to live together. As such, ｢Where the darkness has cleared｣ shows not only social criticism, but also a hopeful view of change in society by talking about solidarity and symbiosis.
