Among American evangelicals, the Southern Baptist Convention(SBC) is the most influential denomination for the conservative Christianity movement. W. A. Criswell (December 19, 1909-January 10, 2002) as a leading figure among Southern Baptists accomplished tremendous work in his sixty-three-years of ministry. His ministry became an icon of megachurch models in the seventies and eighties. Most of all, this Scripture reference-“The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand forever”(Isa 40:8) mirrors the life and ministry of Criswell, the preacher who stood firmly on the Word of God. Criswell is a patriarch of modern-day conservative Southern Baptists. Criswell, along with R. G. Lee and Leo Eddleman, struggled to keep the SBC adhering to conservative doctrines such as biblical centered ministry. This paper will demonstrate his homiletical contexts, his theological foundation, and lastly homiletical analysis.
