Proso millet (Panicum miliaceum L.) is a minor crop in Korea, but it has abundant nutrition and functionality. Miliacin, a prominent triterpenoid found in proso millet, has been shown to cell proliferation in hair bulb and improve telogen effluvium. Triterpenes including miliacin was analyzed in 5 proso millets by GC-MS. The oils of five proso millet cultivar were extracted with soxhlet, hydrolyzed by alkali treatment to extract only unsaponifialbe lipids.
