Long-chain omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (n-3 LCPUFAs), in particular docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), are nutrients involved in several metabolic and physiological processes. They have been extensively studied for their effects in human nutrition and health. This talk will provide a brief overview on metabolism, sources, dietary intake, and global intake and status of n-3 LCPUFA. Recommendations from expert groups and scientific authorities for n-3 LCPUFA intakes for different age groups as well as specific physiological conditions will be discussed.
