Lines are the most concise expression for human beings to recognize and reflect nature. In painting, the line is like a skeleton, supporting the entire picture. And whether a complete work is properly constructed, the marginal line plays a vital role. In oil paintings, the spatial construction of the picture is an important content to be expressed in the work. The marginal line is not only a part of the picture, but also is a representation of spatial awareness, an important means of dividing the picture, and a critical language of shaping the space. The marginal line plays a similar role to light and shadow, color, structure, and other elements that make up the picture. It serves the picture in various forms and ways, highlighting the theme, shaping the space, and promoting the change of artistic style and the expression of emotion. From the perspective of space, this research interprets the characteristics and manifestations of the marginal line and analyzes its spatial characteristics and the visual speace ffect produced by the interweaving of the surrounding elements in the oil painting process in combination with representative works. The research on the processing methods, tampering history, and style of the marginal line extends to the discussion of its spatial shaping. This enables artists to master and use the painting language of line more deeply, to reach a new level, and to give full play to its value in painting.
