Social interest towards teacher influencers is increasing as the number of teacher influencers who use SNS such as ‘teacher YouTubers’ increases. However, there are only few studies on teacher influencers. It is important to understand the characteristics of teacher influencers since they can influence peer teachers, students, parents, and even educational policies. Thus, this study explored the characteristics of teacher influencers, which are distinguished from general influencers, through the concept and characteristics of influencers, teacher activities on SNS in Korea and worldwide, and differences between teacher influencers and general influencers. To meet the purpose of this study, previous studies conducted in Korea and international journals and interview data from eight teacher influencers were analyzed. Through literature review, the characteristics of general influencers were divided into five aspects: concept, emergent background and role, type and number of subscribers, activity space, and influence. Characteristics of teacher influencers were presented through interview and as a result of the study, the characteristics of teacher influencers include: a) Participation status, field of activity, and key consumers: providing educational contents for education workers and consumers; b) Motivation and orientation: voluntary sharing and contribution to the educational development of the educational community; and c) Impact recognition criteria and compensation: self-development through sincere communication rather than monetary profit. Finally, the meaning of teacher influencer as teacher influencer and teacher leader in the light of teaching culture was discussed.
