Jeju females along with wind and stones has been the object of attention for a long time of period. But this attention originated from the other s Gaze. It is real that even the eye of the subject made by the stimulation by such attention is difficult to get out of The others eyes. In this context, this study attempts to examine the Gaze of preceding studies, which have taken Jeju females as their subject so far. First of all, the study of the femininity of myths emphasized the other s Gaze. The reason why research on female myths has been activated since the democratization movement started is that they have the character of counter discourse. However, the gaze of finding the original form of the female principle to resist the male-centered main stream culture from myths reveals the problem of viewing Jeju females as the others. Next, in everyday mythological studies, the Gaze of the subject was emphasized. Amid the deepening trend of economic inequality between men and women due to the depreciation of the value of female labor during the modernization process, studies on Jeju female divers as the material of traditional life have increased. The studies have a critical view of Jeju female diver s mythicization, so they argue that the myth of femininity should be demythicized. Finally, the study of memory reconstruction paid attention to self-contemplation. Since 2000, Jeju female research has focused on the subject of memory. Remembering and testifying Jeju 4.3 Uprising, Jeju females stared at themselves beyond their femininity and gender image as ideology to confront masculinity. This self-contemplation should not be limited to “women in Jeju” but be expanded to include cultural immigrants.
