Background/Aims
Enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) is a multimodal perioperative care protocol designed for quick post-operative recovery. Currently, the ERAS protocol is widely adopted, including at our institution, as a standard treatment option for colorectal cancer patients. The aim of this study was to evaluate the clinical validation of the enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) protocol in colorectal cancer patients aged > 70 years.
Methods
The medical records of patients who underwent elective colorectal cancer surgery at our institution, from January 2017 to December 2017, were reviewed. Patients were divided into two groups: Group I (patients aged 70 and under 70 years) and Group II (patients over 70 years old). Perioperative outcomes, length of hospital stay, and compliance rate of the ERAS protocol were compared between both groups.
