Background
The da Vinci Single-port (SP) system (Intuitive Surgical, Sunnyvale, CA, USA) is designed to facilitate single-incision robotic surgery within a narrow space and may have potential benefits. However, limited experiences have been reported regarding its safety and feasibility to adopt complex procedures in the field of colorectal surgery.
Purpose
This case-matched study aimed to evaluate the short-term clinical outcomes of SP robotic surgery for the treatment of rectal cancer compared with multi-port (MP) robotic surgery
Materials and methods
Patients with rectal cancer who underwent curative resection during 2020 were reviewed. A total of 43 patients underwent robotic total mesorectal excision (TME), of whom 26 (13 in each group, SP-TME vs. MP-TME) formed the case-matched cohort for analysis. Intra- and postoperative data and pathologic results were analyzed between the two groups.
