One of the important traits determining blueberry fruit quality is firmness, which decreases during ripening. As the fruit color changes from pale green to reddish purple, and dark purple, fruit cell walls are greatly modified through complex mechanisms. Expression patterns of cell wall modification related genes were analyzed through reverse transcription quantitative polymerase chain reaction in ‘Bluecrop’ highbush blueberry (Vaccinium corymbosum) fruits during ripening. The genes were selected based on the fold changes in their transcriptomes during ripening.
