Polysaccharides derived from marine algae are used in various biomedical research and medical treatment applications. These polysaccharides are biologically active compounds that require various studies. The biological activity of green algal polysaccharides is affected by its molecular weight. Compared to high molecular weight ulvans, low molecular weight ulvans exhibit more reactivity, higher solubility and easier absorption.
