This study examined the distinction theories between Bourdieu and Baudrillard, particularly through gift exchange which is shared on both of them as the term of symbolic exchange. This study has a second purpose to find out their epistemological background for the discussion. Because it is important to recognize that the epistemological problem is taken as key issue on their discussion.
Accordingly, after preliminary discussion on the symbolic exchange between them, this study examined the distinction theories from the three directions as follows.
Firstly, the study examined the logical mechanism of the distinction theories comparing the commodity-sign system with habitus.
Secondly, the author investigated their epistemological background behind the logical mechanism of distinction and from their discussion, found out the problem of subjective illusions perceived as real.
Finally, the study tried to show the concepts of simulacre and illusio as their epistemological problem and symbolic exchange and the reflexive sociology as their solution.
