Religion can be said to be at the center of human existence in which it solves the suffering of human life and seeks the ultimate meaning of life. On the other hand, science is a unique human activity that has appeared relatively recently in human history. But in recent years, science is exerting the huge influence on people. Then, what is the relationship between religion and science, which are the most central pillars of man in modern life? Historically, science and religion have had various relationships. It seems that sometimes the two are confrontational, while sometimes complementary. In particular, over the past half century, religious circles in some countries, in particular, Christian churches of the United States and Korea, have suffered headaches due to the advent of creation science movement. In this paper, the author evaluates some models of the relationship between religion and science that have been proposed so far. Ian Barber classified the relationship between science and religion into four categories: Integration Model, Conflict Model, Independence Model, and Dialogue Model. However, I think that Barber"s model is little bit outdated because it was proposed in the 1960s, before the full-scale advent of creation science movement. And his model did not fully reflect the recent research in the history of science. Therefore, in this paper, the author proposes the modified relationship between religion and science which is divided into five categories: Concordism Model, Hostility Model, Separation Model, Complementary Model, and Complexity Model.
