Transgenic pigs can be produced by microinjection and SCNT methods, as there is no embryonic stem cell lines for germline transmission like in rodents. Microinjection method is injection of vectors into pronuclei of zygote, however it has disadvantages of low genetic modification rates and mosaicism. After first production of cloned pig in 2000, transgenic pigs have been produced by SCNT using gene modified cells. Transgenic pigs have been used for human disease models, bioreactors for human protein production, and xenotransplantation. As human disease models, transgenic pigs have been produced to study cystic fibrosis, Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, Alzheimer's disease, cancer models, cardiovascular diseases and diabetes mellitus. Although ruminants were mainly used as bioreactors, pigs also have been used for production of human protein C, factors V ... View All
