This thesis aimed to analyze the objects and subjects of Korean diaspora literature through text mining. We have reached the following conclusions from our analysis.
First, Korean diaspora literature research revolves around the identity problems represented in those literary works. Identity problems are the main topic of diaspora literature research, which was confirmed through analysis of the frequency of words.
Second, Korean diaspora literature studies have been conducted mainly with regard to Korean language literature and the Korean literary circle. Although English or Japanese works written by Korean American and Korean Japanese authors have emerged as a subject of study, Korean language works are still quantitatively much more overwhelming.
Third, this research, which focused on Korean Japanese literature, Korean Chinese literature and Korean American literature found that Korean Japanese literature has been studied most, followed by Korean Chinese literature, Koryo-saram literature and Korean American literature. The subjects of research are included in the large category of Korean literature. However, research of Korean American literature has some distinctive properties in that it has been studied in the frame of authors of Korean descent rather than within the category of Korean literature.
Fourth, early Korean diaspora research mainly focused on ethnic issues in Korea, but the discourses have been expanding to identity problems, language, and a study of the districts and society where the Korean diaspora has lived.
This thesis has some limitations in that it excludes essays and other work that have no abstracts, making it difficult to gain a fuller picture of Korean diaspora literature research, but it has great significance in attempting to analyze the trends of these studies statistically through big data analytics.
