The purpose of this study is to find out the current status and meaning of North Korean dance in North Korean defector talk shows through 〈Moranbong Club〉 and 〈I’m Going to Meet〉, which are talk shows for North Korean defectors. Despite the controversy that it is a conservative general programming channel, in a limited sense, we examine the current state of North Korean dance through a talk show for North Korean defectors. For this purpose, discourse analysis, discourse analysis, and video images were analyzed. The research results are as follows.
First, North Korean dance, which North Korean defectors say, is an art designed to convey a political ideology that only a few can enjoy. It is also a means for harmony and exchange between South and North Korea. Since the 2000s, it has absorbed Western-style culture and art, and is a field of art where tradition and modernity coexist.
Second, North Korean dance is a form of total art that combines play, music, and dance, led by the state.
Third, the image of North Korean dance is gorgeous and contains ideology, and contains different discourses of the two conservative comprehensive programming channels.
