In this study, the domestic research trend of digital twin is investigated and the necessary matters are suggested for applying the digital twin to the urban area. First, overseas research trends are introduced and then domestic papers were classified based on the research direction and the research field. In addition, the components of the digital twin dealt with in some papers are reviewed. Through the study, it is confirmed that domestic researches were not taken enough on the digital twin and there is a lack of research on the subject of digital twin itself overall. Therefore, it is important to re-establish the role of geospatial information for modeling the virtual space in order to apply the digital twin to the urban area. And it is necessary to conduct conceptual research for applying the digital twin to the urban area, to change the paradigm in geospatial information field, to promote problem-solving business centered on geospatial information continuously, and to prepare a foundation for linking and expanding some digital twins.
