The purpose of this study is to investigate the characteristics of Jerusalem in Chronicler’s History. The Chronicler’s History utilizes, corrects, and reinterprets the Jerusalem tradition of the previous the Deuteronomistic History to represent Jerusalem as follows.
First, the Chronicler’s reinterpreted the shape of Jerusalem by the theology of crisis overcoming of the Persian era to give up the hopes of the political community and maintain their identity as a religious community. Unlike the Deuteronomistic History, the Chronicler’s History regards David, the founder of the religious community, as the best king, and he interprets David and Jerusalem as an inseparable relationship, highlighting the importance of Jerusalem, which plays a central role in the religious community with David.
Second, the Chronicler’s History emphasizes the prohibition of mixedrace marriages and the maintenance of pure blood for the people in order to overcome the crisis of the Persian era. In addition, the Chronicler’s History revises the Jerusalem tradition of the Deuteronomistic History, which he used, emphasizing the cleanse of Jerusalem as a perfect ritual place for worship by a pure blooded community, responding to the history of crisis they faced.
In conclusion, Jerusalem, which appeared in the Chronicler’s history, appeared as a response to the crisis of the Persian era, and as a religious community, it can be said that it was the center of the hope of recovery for the people who wanted to survive to the end.
