There is a growing interest and demand for learning to deal with rapid social changes. The growth of the food service industry has increased the interest of learners in the beverage industry. Hence, based on Houle(1961)’s theory of learning participation motives, the study investigates the effect of learning participation motives (goal-oriented, learning-oriented, and activity-oriented) on learning commitment, learning satisfaction, learning achievement and learning continuance intention of adult learners who took a beverage-related learning program. To carry out the study, a total of 500 questionnaires were distributed to learners who participated in beverage- related learning programs at educational institutions located in the seoul metropolitan area from September 1 to 20, 2018, but only 449 were used for the analysis. The hypothesized relationships in the model were tested by using a structural equation model. The results of the study are as follows. First, all the learning participation motives have positive effects on learning commitment. Second, the learning commitment improves learning satisfaction. Third, the learning satisfaction has a positive effect on learning achievement and learning continuance intention. Finally, the learning achievement improves learning continuance intention. Therefore, the motivation to participate depends on the type of learners, so prioritization should be given to learning motivation and ongoing efforts will be required to improve learning participation.
