배추흰나비 하진수 끝에 있는 현향기(chordotonal organ)의 미세구조 및 후각신경의 발생과정을 전자현미경 및 광학현미경으로 연구하였다. 하진수에 3개의 현향기가 한데 어울려 존재하는데 이끝쪽으로는 attachment cell이 olfactory placode 옆을 지나 상피세포에 붙어 있고 현향기의 축색은 기부에서 Schwann cell로 둘러싸여 있다. 9쌍의 neurotubule이 수상돌기 끝쪽으로는 cap material 사이를 통과해서 attachment cell에 연결되고 기부쪽으로는 감각세포의 cell body에 들어간다. 후각신경은 현향기의 감각세포 쪽으로 자라 올라가서 감각세포를 따라 내려오는 Schwann cell로 둘러싸인 기존신경의 축색과 연결된다.
