Lewis Nkosi was a South African black writer who fought against apartheid. His first novel, Mating Birds, is the story of an educated black youth, awaiting death for the alleged rape of a white girl, with whom he claims to have a muted love affair across the segregated beach. The narration can be read as an attack or invective on apartheid, the politically racialist system. This paper also studied Toni Morrison’s Beloved, one of the true pictures of black female in the History of Slavery in America. Illuminating the distorted maternal love of a black mother, Morrison wanted to present fundamental problems of slavery through the work. The physical and sexual violence, exploitation of labor force, depredation of a child, all these had critical influences on the (sexual) identity of a black female as a woman, wife and mother. Comparative analysis of these two works reveals that black female sexuality is different from both that of white female and of black male. The thing which this paper reveals is that existing western white-oriented theories are ignorant of the racial, ethnic, and cultural differences when it comes to explaining the development and role of the unconscious, the characteristics of sexualities, which shows their ignorance about lives and cultures of non-western, colonial coloured people.

본 논문은 루이스 응꼬시(Lewis Nkosi)의 『검은 새의 노래』(Mating Bird)와 토니 모리슨(Toni Morrison)의 『빌러비드』(Beloved)를 비교 분석하면서 각기 흑인 남성의 섹슈얼리티와 흑인 여성의 섹슈얼리티가 각기 다른 방식으로 백인들에 의해 전유됨으로써 발생하는 억압, 왜곡, 착취의 차별적인 양상을 고찰하고 있다. 이를 통해 (포스트) 식민주의 시대의 왜곡되고 억압된 ‘블랙 섹슈얼리티’의 문제점을 교정함으로써 글로벌 시대에 반인종적인 인식의 지평을 확립하고자 한다. 응꼬시는 인종 차별에 맞서 싸운 남아프리카 흑인 작가로, 그의 첫 소설인 『검은 새의 노래』는 교육받은 흑인 청년이 백인 소녀를 강간하려 했다는 혐의로 인해 사형을 언도받고 죽음을 기다리는 이야기이다. 흑인에 대한 차별 뿐 아니라 백인 여성에 대한 성적 충동과 공격성을 기정사실화하는 흑인 남성에 대한 왜곡된 인종주의적 인식으로 인해 흑인 남성의 섹슈얼리티가 왜곡되는 과정을 본 논문은 시비야의 내레이션을 따라가며 추적하고 있다. 이 논문은 또한 미국 노예 역사에서 실제 발생했던 흑인 여성의 여아살해 사건을 다룬 토니 모리슨의 『빌러비드』를 분석하고 있다. 모리슨은 흑인 어머니의 왜곡된 모성애를 조망하면서 노예 제도의 근본적인 문제를 제기하고 있는데, 육체적, 성적 폭력, 노동력 착취, 아동 학대 등의 모든 것이 여성, 아내, 어머니로서 흑인 여성의 섹슈얼리티에 중대한 영향을 미쳤음을 보여주고 있다. 이 두 작품의 비교 분석을 통해 흑인 남성과 흑인 여성에게 섹슈얼리티는 각각 다르게 기입되며, 이는 서구의 식민주의와 계몽주의의 인종주의로 인해 비롯되었음을 확인할 수 있다. 본 논문은 이러한 과정을 통해 식민주의 시대의 왜곡되고 억압된 ‘블랙 섹슈얼리티’의 문제점을 교정하고 글로벌 시대에 걸맞는 반인종적인 인식의 필요성을 확인하였다.
