This paper presents (ⅰ)systematic and continuous introduction of similarities and differences between classical and modern grammar, and (ⅱ)the interpretation of classical sentences into modern Japanese in an accurate and easy--to-understand manner, based on theories accumulated in previous historical research on Japanese grammar. Specifically, this paper described the introduction of conjugation forms (section 3.1 examples of verbs) and auxiliary verbs, and presentation of “Mu” (Section 3.2), which is practiced in a class for second󰠏year students of the Japanese Language Department at Jeonnam University(second semester opened; 33 students). Regarding (ⅰ), this paper introduces the Japanese syllabary table that is indispensable for learning basic Japanese, explains the types of verbs in modern grammar, and then presents nine types of verbs in classical grammar. It is necessary to explain each verb after introducing the “six conjugation forms(examples of verbs)”, and to carefully explain the names of the conjugation forms. In addition, the classical and modern grammar are written together to show the types of verbs and conjugation forms. Regarding (ⅱ), after explaining the connection of the 28 auxiliary verbs to which words and conjugation forms and semantic functions of the auxiliary verbs themselves, each auxiliary verb is presented with examples. Besides, it is necessary to present the answer after letting the learner think about the expression that represents “passive”, “causative”, “past”, “will”, etc. in modern grammar. Furthermore, when explaining the usage of the auxiliary verb “Mu” to learners, “Mu” represents an unreal situation, and is mainly used for conjecture, volition, and solicitation. “Mu” in the adnominal usage will be translated in the basic verb form of modern grammar. Based on present results, in order to design effective classical grammar-related education, it is necessary to keep the latest research and educational trends in mind, draw out learners’ knowledge and information on modern grammar, and explain it through the comparison of classical grammar.
