The purpose of this paper is to identify the current status and characteristics of North Korean fisheries in the Kim Jong-un era. To this end, we reviewed the flow of North Korean fisheries policy before the Kim Jong-un era. The history of North Korean fisheries can be divided into five periods. The first period is the stage of structurization, the second period is the stage of systemization, the third period is the stage of enlargement, the fourth period is the stage of stagnation, and the fifth period is the stage of recovery. The current status of North Korean fisheries in the Kim Jong-un era is as follows. In the fishing industry, fishing boat and gear modernization, and fishing related science were promoted. In the fish farming and aquaculture sectors, ocean farming and inland water fish farming have developed. In inland fish farming sector, catfish and cage farming have spreaded. There is also a growing interest in the seafood processing sector in recent years. This is considered as a result of increased seafood production. New factories have been built and industrialization is underway. The characteristics of North Korean fisheries in the Kim Jong-un era are as follows. First, reconstruction of the fishing industry is underway. Second, the military took the lead and increased fishing output. Third, inland cage farming is rapidly spreading.
