The proposed beamforming antenna system is capable of adjusting the beam direction of array antenna as a feeding system with Butler matrix. The beam pattern of array antenna is determined by the magnitude and phase of feeding signal, and interval between antenna elements. Therefore, designing each component such as Butler matrix and array antenna is very important because those decide on the performance and beam direction. In this paper, we propose the 4⨉4 beamforming antenna combining Butler matrix and array antenna to extend bandwidth, and to reduce the size. The beamforming Antenna’s circuit is implemented in a multilayer technology. The multilayer compositions are resolved by using double layered microstrip transmission line (MTL). Finally, the switched beamforming antenna has been designed and fabricated on double layered MTL by the proposed configuration. And also, the simulation results and the measured results have been compared for performance analysis each other. As a result, the proposed beamforming antenna has good performance that the relative bandwidth, maximum return loss, insertion loss and progressive phase shift deviation are 24%, 15.76 dB, 6.5±0.8 dB and ±5° in operating frequency band, respectively. Also, the beam pattern according to each input has good coverage with a half power beamwidth of 30° within a range of 120° sector for mobile base station.
