This paper provides empirical results on the Regional characteristics and status of the Growth of the Korea’s tourism industry. By using dynamic shift-share method, it found the following facts. First, the nation"s tourism industry is heavily concentrated on certain areas but the degree of the concentration is not as big as the overall service sector. The size of per capita sales in the tourism industry is relatively small compared to the average of service sector, particularly the smallness of the tourism industry differs greatly from region to region. Second, the main factors causing the regional growth difference are as follows: regional economic situation, development new cities and transportation infrastructure. The feature of the growth of tourism industry differs by regions. Jeju and Gangwon provinces have shown that tourism has grown mainly due to the strengthening of the tourism industry itself, whereas Incheon, Gyeonggi and Chungnam provinces have seen tourism grow mainly due to the overall economic growth rather than the strengthening of the tourism industry.
