The purpose of this paper is to examine how creationism has been discussed in Korea. Creationism in the traditional reformed theology is characterized by ‘creation from nothing,’ ‘rejection of evolutionism,’ and ‘various interpretations of the day of Genesis 1.’ In this paper, we collected the documents related to creationism in Korea and divided creationism into four categories: young earth theory, old earth theory, theistic evolution theory, and intelligent design theory. And we have explained the major outputs for each theory. Therefore, readers will be able to understand the current status of the four camps in a concise and clear way through this review. The main characteristics of the discussion of creationism in Korea are as follows. First, the two camps of the young earth theory and the theistic evolution theory are fiercely competing. Second, although the interpretation of the young earth camp is consistent with the reformed theology, its research activity is not quite active. Third, the theistic evolution theory produced overwhelmingly superior output to that of young earth theory. Fourth, the old earth theory differs from the young earth theory only in the interpretation of ‘day,’ showing the possibility of a third way of explaining creation. Fifth, intelligent design can be put into the category of history science, not theology, and it is possible to explain the origins. Sixth, there is an emotional conflict between the young earth theory and the theistic evolution theory. Finally, this paper suggests that reformed camps will be more active in creationism research and that theologians will be more active in creationism lectures. And we recommend to pay more attention to the old earth theory and intelligent design theory.
