The imperial examination system, which has been maintained for nearly a century, is closely related to the consolidation of the royal power in Joseon and the idea of governing the country. It has exerted a profound influence on the selection criteria of officials, the value orientation of scholar-officials, the educational content and teaching methods of traditional academies, and the formation of the ideology and culture of the Korean nation. The imperial examinations also greatly changed social consciousness and social structure. Moreover, it played an irreplaceable role in the five hundred years of the Joseon dynasty, which deposed other theories and respected the orthodox Confucianism. Therefore, the historical, political, ideological, cultural, ethical and other important factors in Goryeo and Joseon dynasty can be seen through the official examination papers and the imperial examination educational references circulating in the academy at that time. It is a precious key to the Joseon society in the past dynasties, and with high documentary value. The purpose of this paper is to study the trend of the research on the limperial examination’s documents of Joseon. That is, the paper aims at the current research progress in the field of limperial examination’s list, exam writings, examination papers and exercise methods. At the same time, the paper also puts forward some Suggestions on the future development prospects of the study of the limperial examination’s examination papers.
