The purposes of this study were to establish an analytic model of young children’s territoriality and to analyze young children’s territoriality in early childhood educational institute. The participants were 50 and 182 children aged 3 to 5 in K kindergarten in Gwangju. 50 children were for establishing an analytic model and 182 children for analyzing the young children’s territoriality. Data were collected by participatory observation and were analyzed using descriptive statistics and χ² analysis. Through participatory observation of 50 young children, this study established an analytic model of young children’s territoriality in an educational institute. The model include territory factor (territorial size, position, boundary rigidity, staying time, and a number of persons) and territorial behavior factor(territorial building behavior, territorial defense behavior and territorial control behavior). The observation results of 180 children using analytic model of this study were as follows: Most children built their territories by themselves only or 3~4 together. The sizes were 50~100㎝ in door and outdoor. the size outdoor was larger than that inside. Children stayed for 10~20 minutes in the territory, they stayed more in outdoor. Most infants protected their territories by linguistic defense and physical defense. They also controlled or moved the boundary of their territory.
