The purpose of this study is to find out what kinds of factors the image of Daejeon Citizen Football Club is composed of and to search for how to create the positive image on the basis of the image constituents demonstrated on this study.
In order to achieve the purpose of the study, Q-methodology was applied. A total of 30 of citizens living in Daejeon City were selected with P-sample. By means of question investigation to P-sample, composed of 125 questionnaires, 30 questionnaires of open type were extracted, called Q-sample. According to the traditional method of Q-sorting, 30 citizens of another sample group read the statements of Q-sample, and then rearranged the statements in accordance with the importance. These rearranged statements were called Q-sample. This Q-sample was analysed through the Principal Component Factor Analysis of QUANL statistical program. The results were as follows.
The image of the football club was composed of 5 factors; political image, image of the public owned football club, image of team identification, image of local representative image, and mixed image.
Firstly, political image means that executives of the football club such as president, managing director, and executive director have been occupied by non-professionals because of political reasons. Also, this image contains that amateurs should be replaced by professionals who know how to manage a football club. This image is regarded as negative image. Secondly, image of the public owned football club reflects that the club represents and symbolizes Daejeon City in spite that the club have committed diverse corruptions, regarded as negative image. Thirdly, image of team identification describes that the citizens regard the club as the requisite for enjoying their leisure in daily life, regard as positive image. Nextly, image of local representative shows that the club have contributed to local society by playing an important role in developing youth players from the local area. Finally, mixed image demonstrates that the club has the positive and negative image at the same time. The positive is the fact that the club improves the image of the city, and the negative is the fact that the club provides entertainment to a small number of people.
