This paper examined the aspects and characteristics of Koguryo's diplomatic relations with Southern Qi. During the reign of King Changsu(長壽王), Koguryo intermittently interacted with Southern Qi as a continuation of diplomatic relations with Song(宋). Southern Qi had a narrow range of foreign relations compared to the Song, and there was little appeal to neighboring countries as the Southern Qi limited their requests for advanced cultural objects. As a result, Koguryo kept up a lively exchange with the Northern Wei(北魏) and further prevented the exchange between Southern Qi and Paekche(百濟). Such attitudes aggravated the distrust and discontent of the Southern Qi towards Koguryo. The exchange between the two countries were temporarily resumed during the reign of King Munja(文咨王). Except for Koguryo, Southern Qi was having difficulty finding a country which was able to deter the Northern Wei. This was because Rouran(柔然) had weakened and Southern Qi had gotten into a bad relationship with the Tuyuhun(吐谷渾). In addition, the political unrest of Southern Qi became even greater and the war with Northern Wei continued. However, Koguryo observed the development of the situation and did not engage in the confrontation between Southern Qi and Northern Wei. Through the above review, Koguryo's diplomacy with the Southern Qi moved in accordance with the requests of the Southern Qi. Keywords: Koguryo, Southern Qi, Northern Wei, King Changsu, King Munja
