Brevibacterium spp.는 그람 양성 막대균으로, 비병원성으로 알려져 있으며 인체 감염 사례는 매우 드물게 보고되었다. 이번 연구에서 저자들은 Brevibacterium otitidis에 의한 이염 증례를 보고한다. 53세 여성이 수개월간 지속되는 이루 증상과 이충만감, 이명, 청력 장애 등이 동반되어 병원을 방문하였다. 균 동정을 위해 이루를 혈액한천배지에 배양하였고, 집락은 처음에 VITEK 2에 의해 Actinomyces odontolyticus로 동정되었다. VITEK® MS는 집락을 B. luteolum으로 동정하였다. 집락은 16S rRNA 유전자 염기서열분석에 의해 B. otitidis로 확인되었다. 항균제 감수성 검사에서는 vancomycin과 linezolid에는 감수성이 있으면서 clindamycin과 penicillin에는 저항성을 보이는 것으로 확인되었다. 저자들이 알고 있는 바에 의하면 이번 증례는 한국 내에서 B. otitidis에 의한 이염의 첫 증례 보고이다.
