Taiwan issued the 12-Year National Education Social Studies Course (12YNESSC) in October 2018 for implementation of the 12-Year National Education. The 12YNESSC has been conducted since September 2019 and will be extended on an annual basis in order from the first grade in elementary, middle and high school.
In this situation, I analyzed the history education course included in the 12YNESSC in this paper. The results of the analysis are as follows: The 12-Year National Education History Course (12YNEHC) in 2018 has changed a lot compared to before, especially adopting ‘three sub-domain structure’ (Taiwan, China & East Asia, and World) and emphasizing interactions among the sub-domains. This leads to the reduction of the content in Chinese history and further this will contribute to ‘De-Sinicization’ for sure. This is not in the accordance to the claim of the Education Ministry under the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) to say that ‘three sub-domain structure’ is not to intend for ‘De-Sinicization’, but to make ‘global thinking’ to build up the competency of the new generation of citizens. Based on the analysis, I think that the 12YNEHC intend to be ‘De-Sinicization’ through ‘global thinking’ and ‘sub-domain structure’, and to spur the DPP regime"s ‘De-Sinicization’ in the line of the implementation of High School History Course Outline in 2005.
