Mananbyeo was developed from a three way cross Milyang110/Yeongdeog7//Milyang110 in 1999. It has short growing duration about 71 days from seeding to heading and short culm length of 75 cm. It has almost similar number of panicles per hill, spikelets per panicle and 1000 kernels weights to Keumobyeo. This cultivar is resistant to blast but susceptible to bacterial blight, virus disease and insect pests. It showed a few premature heading in extremely late planting with 70-day old and is more tolerant to cold damage compared with Keumobyeo. Milled rice of this variety is translucent and clear endosperm, and it has good eating quality of cooked rice. The milled rice yield of Mananbyeo is about 5.6 MT/ha and 4.74 MT/ha in replicated yield trials of late planting cultivation (1995, 1996) and 5.30 MT/ha on local adaptability test plots (1996~1998) in late planting after cash crop cultivation. This cultivar revealed a higher yield capacity per day compared with Keumobyeo and it is highly adaptable to late planting. Mananbyeo would be adaptable to late planting area after cash crop cultivation in southern plain of Korea.
