The purpose of this article is to suggest a proper and systematic way of dealing with the Korean embedded sentences in the Korean teaching context as a foreign language. As the number of advanced Korean learners who have a special purpose of learning Korean is increasing, the demand for the language ability that is needed in research and works in special areas is also increasing. To meet the demand, advanced Korean learners should be able to utilize various types of Korean sentences in order to express their thoughts in more detail. From this point of view, the connective sentences and the embedded sentences could be helpful for the learners - in this paper, the embedded sentences will be discussed. At first, the definition and types of embedded sentences that is used in Korean study will be dealt with, and then how they could also be defined in the Korean teaching context as a foreign language will be explored. In addition, based on this search, this article also states how the embedded sentences are introduced in Korean teaching and learning materials. In fact, according to the result of this study, there seems to be few chances the learners to learn and practice the embedded sentences intensively. Therefore, this article lastly stresses the importance of well-structured teaching about the embedded sentences, and suggests a method of teaching the embedded sentences. (Korea University)
