A new peanut (Arachis hypogaea L.) variety Jakwang was developed from the cross between HYQ(CG)S-10 and Suwon 101 by the Yongnam Agricultural Research Institute(YARI) and Honam Agricultural Research Institute(HARI) in 2003. This variety has Shinpung type and erect growth habit with large obovate dark green leaves. This had 14 branches number per plant, 39 cm of the height of the main axis, and 41 cm of the length of primary branches. Jakwang had two kernels with purple testa color in each pod and its 100-kernel weight was 93g. Number of pods per m2 was 208 pods and the meat contents was 71%. The seeds contained 51.3% oil and 27.1% protein, and 2.0 of the oleic/linoleic fatty acid ratio. Resistance to disease of Cercospora arachidicola was rated 1.7 in the field condition. The yield potential of fresh pod for vegetable use of the variety was outyielded than check one by 10% with 7,580 kg/ha. This variety would be registered as a new variety to all over the peanut cultivation area except mountainous area of Kangwon province of Korea.
