Five strains, producing bacterial thermostable Larabinoseisomerase, were isolated from Korean soil samplesobtained from compost under high temperature circumstances.Among these strains, the CBG-A1 showed the highest Larabinoseisomerase activity at 60oC and was selected as a Dtagatoseproducing strain from D-galactose. This strain wasidentified as Geobacillus thermodenitrificans based on the16S rRNA analysis, and biological and biochemical characteristics.The isolated strain was aerobic, rod-shaped, Gram-positive,nonmotile, and an endospore-forming bacterium. No growthwas detected in culture temperature below 40oC. Themaximum growth temperature and maximum temperature ofenzyme activity were 75oC and 65oC, respectively. In metalion effects, Ca2+ was the most effective enzyme activator withthe reaction rate by 150%. In a 5-l jar fermentor with 3-l MYmedium, L-arabinose isomerase activity was growth-associatedand pH decreased rapidly after the initial logarithmic phase.
