Study on Korean language teacher training education program via the InternetKim Jung Sup, Cho Hyun Yong, Lee Jung Hee(Kyunghee Univ.)Presently, there are many graduates from graduate schools of education and various other general graduate schools who are entering the Korean language teaching profession but an overall demand for qualified teachers has been difficult to fill. Therefore, it is urgent to create more educational programs to produce qualified teachers. But due to certain time and space constraints, Korean language teacher training education has faced many obstacles and limitations. In light of current circumstances, we would like to propose Korean language teacher training education programs via the Internet.The educators must first use instructor-directed teaching methods designed for a class of adult learners. Content will include lectures, slides, photos, maps and other visual aids, video segments, movies, audio segments and other multimedia -appropriate content. We find this approach to be the most effective. The Internet offers certain advantages such as not being confined to time and space as well as the availability of lessons for repetition and a standardized way of sharing information over the Internet. This study aims to examine the current program run jointly by the Institute of International Education at Kyung Hee University and UCL. Using the program as a model, we will look at various effective means that can be employed to educate future Korean language instructors as well as other ways to use the Internet to provide helpful sites that may serve as a portal for teachers and educators to share valuable information. In addition these sites will offer supplementary material and networking to support teachers already in the teaching profession.
