The purpose of this paper is to show that lexical functions can be a useful tool to describe the semantic relation between the nodes and the collocates of collocations. In the first chapter we defined the exact concept of collocation and proposed a list of 22 syntagmatic lexical functions. Next we examined how the lexical function can be applied to decribe the collocations of 4 languages: Korean, French, Spanish and Italian. As a result, we showed that it is evident that lexical functions are the universal means for the semantic description of multilingual collocations. We provided examples of collocations using the words 'problem, cry and relation' across the three target languages. But when we choose the foreign collocations corresponding to the Korean collocations we meet a few difficulties as we apply same the lexical function used for foreign collocations. Concerning this problem we tried to suggest several temporary solutions in this paper.
