The modern society is an era of both scientific development and the subsequent ills of civilization. In addition, sometimes technology developed for human convenience is misused and misplaced in human life. Bitcoin, which was introduced in 2008, is one of the reasons for the growing need to discuss the use of virtual currencies, drug trafficking, Internet fraud and illegal money laundering. Bitcoin is characterized by the absence of issuing and transaction approval bodies, as well as the ability of everyone to open exchanges and exchange between legal currencies and bitcoins between individuals. However, these advantages are sometimes exploited by crime, causing other social problems. Regarding regulation of bitcoin, not only South Korea but also countries around the world are showing differences in their positions. There are some countries within the system that have rules in place, while others have negative views on Bitcoin. For example, in Germany, taxation was made possible by defining bitcoin as a unit of account and distributing it within the scope of financial regulation. However in China, a complete ban on bitcoin transactions has been reduced to less than 1% of the total bitcoin transactions in court currency. Currently, South Korea is not active in regulating Bitcoin, and accordingly, if there is a crime involving Bitcoin, there is insufficient response. However, the advent of virtual currencies such as Bitcoin will affect the lives of humans in the future, and the preparation of related regulations will be necessary to deal with new crimes committed by Bitcoin.
