China’s community correction has become a hot topic in criminal legislation and the reform of criminal justice since the new century with symbolic meaning from form to content. It is of special significance to establish the legal term “community correction” both in legislation and practice, showing Chinese people’s pursuit of an ideal society based on civilization and rule of law. China’s community correction is taking a path of piloting followed by legislation. Since the initial pilot projects in 2003 to the nationwide promotion, the community correction has seen satisfactory results and is finally established by legislation in the 8th Amendment of the Criminal Law in 2011 and the Criminal Procedure Law amended in 2012. Currently, China’s legislative organ has put the formulation of the Community Correction Law on the agenda.
