This paper demonstrates how Hopi/Miwok poet, Wendy Rose employs story-weaving techniques in her poetry. Rose’s appropriation of storytelling modes and topics within the inclusive functions of story-weaving shows well how she has continuously developed her poetics to a wider spectrum of community-building. This paper finds her poetry particularly concerned with communal experience about colonialism, weaving together the stories of Native Americans in the US and those of other people under oppression around the world. By employing a traditional poetic technique of persona, Rose pushes the boundaries of themes of native resistance to represent solidarity between various colonized people. In the process, the poet presents her own concept of “halfbreededness” that justifies and emphasizes the significance of the story-weaving technique that expands a personal identity into a larger persona, speaking for the dispossessed people and recovering the erased voices of native women or women of color.
