The purpose of this study lies in exploring the achievements of university students from participating in volunteer activities as serious leisure, and to present an activation plan for volunteer activities based on these achievements. In order to do this, from September, 2015 to March, 2016, in-depth interviews were conducted with 11 university students who had participated in the Multucultural Mentoring Program. The contents of the interviews were analyzed based on the 6 functions of volunteer activities as presented by Clary & Snyder(1998). The results of the research are as follows. First, from the value aspect, their perception of service changed and became a chance for them to feel the importance of community. Second, from the understanding aspect, through the meetings with multicultural family students the understanding of interculture increased. Third, from the social aspect, they were able to learn personal relation skills as well as communication skills. Fourth, from the career aspect, through preliminary experiences as teachers they were able to reestablish the view of a teacher and be acquainted with teaching skills. Fifth, from the aspect of self-protection, they experienced change in character through positive thinking. Sixth, from the aspect of self-improvement, they were able to cultivate diverse knowledge and gain psychological maturity. We connected these results with the concept of serious leisure and discussed mutual correlationship.
