Shin Nakkyun’s historical position in history of korean photography is ditermined by his contribution as a precursor in several fields : first korean who educated systematically photography, professor of YMCA which is the first establishment public of photography, pioneer of korean photography as a writer. His point of view on photography is characterized, first of all, by a very wide concept on photography. He did not limite the field of photography determining closely the possibility of photography. For him, the photography was not only a technique which can be used in all areas, but a useful art that we practise in our daily life. He didn’t consider the photography as only art. Photography as a art was for him a ponit of view for use it. However, photography as a art constitute for him a very important point of view for overtake traditional thinking on photography in 1920’s korean society, because the majority of korean professional photographer thought the photography as a technique for make a systematic portrait. So, his concept on photography get us a open concept which can widen the possibility of photography.
