본 증례에서 알 수 있듯이 PDGFRB 골수증식 종양에서 imatinib의사용은 과호산구증가증의 자연 경과에 지대한 영향을 미쳤다. 과거 imatinib을 사용하지 않던 환자들의 경우 2년생존율이 55% 정도였던 것에 비해 imatinib을 사용하는 경우10년 생존율이 90%로 극적인 상승이 있었다. 따라서 과호산구증가증 보이는 경우 PDGFRB 재배열을 동반한 골수 종양에 대한 고려가 반드시 필요하며 분자유전학적으로 PDGFR 재배열을 보일 경우 즉시 imatinib의 치료가 필요하다.
