The purpose of the study was to analyze research trends on the use of ICT in biology education. The study investigated 49 articles between 2000~2009 from, and taken the referred journals in science education. The articles were analyzed according to research topic, subject, content in biology education, type of technology used, research method, and the impact. The major findings of the study are as follows: Over the last ten years, the number of articles published has slowly been declining. Studies on development and its application made up 51% and most of them were quantitative studies. Students were the main subjects, predominantly secondary school students (61.2%). ‘Metabolism' and ‘Reproduction and Genetics' were the most popular domains in using ICT in biology. Web-based courseware and web-based teaching and learning materials were dominant but new types of ICT like MBL, Digital textbook, Web forum, Web tools were catching up. The most common variable in measuring the impact of ICT in biology education, was ‘Understanding of scientific concepts' (72%). Most of the studies showed the positive effects in understanding scientific concepts, improving inquiry skills and attitude toward science, and enhancing attitude to learning. We suggest that more qualitative studies and studies on using up-and-coming technology are needed to analyse effective methods for ICT use in biology education. In addition, student-directed ICT use is an essential requirement to develop biology education.
